Laura de SANTILLANA was born, according to her words in a glass factory. Paolo Venini’s grand-child, Anna Venini and Ludovico Diaz de Santillana’s daughter, this Venetian was born in the famous Venini factory in Murano, Italy.

Laura de Santillana moved to New York after finishing classical studies at the School of Visual Arts in NYC. She then became a graphic designer at the design firm of Vignelli Associates in 1976, and then returned to Italy where she began her active collaboration with the Venini & C, along with many Italian and foreign artists. During this period she used the techniques of Murano to create refined works with unusual colours, among which the plates in “vetro mosaico” deserve particular mention. Her glassworks have received many prizes and recognitions, and are held by the most important museums of the world.

Last October, Laura de Santillana died in 2019 after a brief illness. The Ippodo Gallery located on the Upper East Side paid homage to the artist whose work they deeply admired.
